*2023 - LTA renews our prestigious "Regional Player Development Centre" statusClick here to find out more!

Club members can play all year round, whatever your age or ability, on one of our 20 international tournament standard courts.

Choose your surface from American clay, artificial grass, or cushioned acrylic (indoor and outdoor), with a bubble over four outdoor courts in the winter.  With our planned programme of club days and tournaments you'll never be without a partner for a game.

We offer a combination of individual and group coaching. There is a team of experienced coaches who offer individual coaching for all ages and abilities. All tennis coaches are LTA licensed. There is also a comprehensive tennis timetable for both juniors and adults which caters for children from 4 years of age upwards and is relevant to the ability levels throughout all age groups. We also run a host of tournaments and social events throughout the year. The adult coaching programme offers courses, one off sessions, pay and play sessions as well as free club mix-in sessions.

Each new member will benefit from an induction with one of our tennis coaches to establish your current ability. The West Hants Colour Grading System is a simple measurement of approximate playing standard. It follows snooker ball colours from their lowest to highest points value: red, yellow, green, brown, blue, pink and black, the criteria for each colour is described in the table here. Get the most from the West Hants Tennis Programme with the following coaching, compeitive and social play for your colour grade.

Our History

In October 2004 the West Hants Club was awarded the status of being one of the LTA's High Performance Centres (HPC). Working in conjunction with the LTA's two academies at Loughborough and Bath, the high performance centres, of which there were 6 nationwide, were at the forefront of the drive throughout British tennis to produce more and better players.  Our Junior Tennis Academy thrived within this elite performance setting, and under the guidance of our excellent and experienced team of coaches, our Juniors enjoyed national and international success on court.  Our Academy, to this date, is partnered by Talbot Heath and Bournemouth Collegiate schools.

In order to achieve HPC status the club had to meet the following criteria:

  • That there are a minimum of 20 players of national standard registered in the clubs HPC programme.
  • The club is committed to providing quality training and tournament programmes for the players invited to access the HPC.
  • The club has the coaching staff and facilities to deliver these training and tournament programmes.
  • The club subsidises the high performance centre with an equivalent level of funding to that which the LTA commits to the programme.
