12th August 2020 - A message from our CEO and Club Chairman

Membership Fee Returns

I would like to start by welcoming back all members as we safely and slowly re-open your club. I appreciate for some people it has been a difficult time in many different ways and we are making great efforts to make everyone feel safe and able to enjoy the Club.

I wrote last month outlining the various options on membership and the purpose of this email is to remind members who have continued to pay throughout lockdown when their fees will be returned.

Club Membership update

As you are aware the Club was locked down for nearly four months. For members that continued to pay their usual membership by Direct Debit during this period, from 1st September 2020 we will only collect 50% of your fees each month until your credit is repaid.

For members who pay annually, your renewal date remains the same but your renewal fee will be for 8 months instead of the usual 12 months. Details will be included in your annual renewal notice.

We are most appreciative and thankful that the payments were continued by so many members as this did assist with the cash flows of our Club enabling us to return.

Members request

A number of members have approached us and expressed that they do not want their credit returned but instead would like to further support the Club as we continue to move through this challenging Covid-19 period. We appreciate that this is not an option for everyone, but if it is a consideration then please email me directly by clicking here before Wednesday 19th August.

Thank you for your continued support to West Hants in these unprecedented times and we hope you continue to enjoy the facilities and friendship of our Club.

Kind Regards

Peter Elviss & Edwin Bessant
Chief Executive & Club Chairman
The West Hants Club

We are pleased to announce the return of these popular Club sessions!

  • Tennis Club Night returns on Thursday 13th August at 6.30pm. Open to players graded Green and above, this free session will take place outdoors.  Places are limited so will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.  Sign up on the day, from midday, at Reception.
  • Spin classes return on Monday 17th August.  One-week advance bookings are now open and you have several daily sessions to choose from. We have also added a new HIIT class on Sunday mornings
  • Aqua classes return on Friday 4th September.  More details will follow soon so keep checking our website, your inbox, and our social media channels.  Bookings will open on Friday 28th August at 8am online or by calling Reception.
  • Friday Night Happy Hour is back and extended so from 6pm-8pm you can enjoy special offers on your favourite drinks whilst the sun sets.  We are also planning to add some "specials" to our menu so reserve a table and start your weekend with us!

Your Guests
We are now able to welcome your non-member guests to play racket sports with you at the Club.  Guests must be accompanied by a member when they visit.  At present, we cannot extend this to our fitness or social-only facilities but hope this will soon change.  Guests must purchase a guest pass which includes more details about access.  Passes cost £8 per adult and can be purchased at Reception.

Thank you for your ongoing support of the changes we've made, across all facilities, to keep everyone safe and able to enjoy their activities.

Best wishes,

Peter D Elviss

Chief Executive

PS. Remember, we are participating in the "Eat Out to Help Out" scheme so you can save up to £10 per person when you dine with us from Monday to Wednesday, throughout August.  Email Manager Steve to reserve your table.

30th July 2020 - August Newsletter

We are taking part in the Government's "Eat Out Help Out" initiative which offers a 50% discount off food and soft drinks from Monday to Wednesday during August (maximum saving £10 per person).

With this in mind, from August we are moving our BBQ nights to Wednesdays, meaning you can enjoy the long summer evenings at the Club whilst we take care of dinner at a discounted rate!  Advance booking is essential so speak to the Bar Team or email Manager Steve today.  Also new from August is the option to order and pay at the Bar if an "order point" is available.  We will continue to offer table service, especially during peak times.

We continually monitor capacity and demand, along with Government guidelines, to try and give members the best experience we can at the Club.  Our Studio classes have returned and we plan to expand the timetable soon to include Spin from mid-August and Aqua from September so keep your eyes peeled for updates.

We also feel able offer members the use of showers (not lockers) in our Adult Changing Rooms - these are located near the BWT Physio Reception area.  Please note:

  • If you are using our courts or fitness facilities, please arrive ready for your session and keep your valuables with you at all times.
  • Access to the changing rooms that lead to our pool remain exclusively for members who have a pool booking.
  • Our Adult Changing Rooms can be found near the BWT Physio Reception area.  These will be clearly signposted.
  • These Adult Changing Rooms have capacity for four people at any one time.  We are discouraging loitering so if the changing room is full, we politely ask that you return home to shower.

We ask that you kindly respect the above to enable your fellow members to use their booked facilities safely and comfortably.  This is subject to change at short notice if we feel safety is being compromised.

Thank you very much for your ongoing support whilst we welcome back team members and adjust to our new normal - we are committed to delivering a first-class service in a safe environment for you all.

Kind Regards

Peter D. Elviss

Chief Executive

PS. Spaces are still available on our Adult Tennis Sessions this summer, led by coaches Roger and Rob!  Book your place in advance at Reception and pay on arrival!

21st July 2020 - Summer Newsletter - Squash Courts open on Saturday

Within days you will be able to play racket sports and workout in all areas of our Club - this includes squash (see below)!  We cannot wait to welcome more of our members back and we thank you in advance for supporting the 'new normal' changes we have made.  Remember to advise our Membership Team by Wednesday 22nd July if you wish to make any membership adjustments in time for 1st August 2020.  Please also pay careful attention to the processes we have in place to keep everyone as safe as possible.

We are pleased to confirm our pre-pandemic plans to remove indoor court fees remain in place and our coaching team have been busy planning summer sessions for children and adults - read more below.

More good news came recently from the LTA who have awarded us Regional Player Development Centre (RPDC) status which is well deserved recognition for our dedicated tennis team who cannot wait to get started with this programme from September.  RPDC Head Coach, Richard Irwin, says,

'With the success our players have had on the international stage in recent years, we’re delighted to have the LTA’s support and recognition. The RPDC status enables us to play a pivotal role on the Player Pathway and will allow us to continue to deliver our exceptional and proven programme to even more rising stars.  Our aim is to help create a pipeline of future champions and support British Tennis in becoming one of the most respected nations in player development”

Thank you very much for your ongoing support whilst we welcome back team members and adjust to our new normal - we are committed to delivering a first class service in a safe environment for you all.

Kind Regards

14th July 2020 - Your Membership Options from 1st August 2020

With the Government granting permission to re-open our fitness facilities, we have an update for you regarding your membership from 1st August 2020.  At time of writing, we are still interpreting information relating to squash and racketball.

Please read thoroughly - you may need to take action by Wednesday 22nd July!

We are re-starting our membership "clock" on 1st August 2020
As most of our facilities will be open from 25th July 2020, any membership "lieu" time you have banked will stop with effect from 1st August 2020.

I've been paying my usual fees and want to use the Club's facilities from 1st August 2020
You do not need to take any action!
We will charge your full fees for August and 50% of your usual monthly fee starting on 1st September 2020 until your credit is repaid.  For example, if you paid your usual fees throughout closure, we will owe you April, May, June and July so you will enjoy eight months of membership at half price.

I downgraded to social membership - what options do I have?
For members who downgraded during Club closure, please select from one of the following options:

(1) You can continue paying £12 per month to use the Club socially until you are ready to use other areas of the Club.  In this case, you do not need to take any action.

(2) You can enjoy more of our facilities by upgrading back to your usual category.  For a smooth and immediate process, please email our Membership Team by Wednesday 22nd July to request this.  It would be helpful to our team if you could confirm your usual category of membership in your email - click here to email the team.

I have been paying my usual fees but do not want to return yet
Although our membership "clock" will re-start on 1st August 2020, we understand some members do not wish to return yet.

If this applies to you, we ask for your ongoing support by opting for a social membership which is £12 per month.  This will not be repayable but you will benefit from a smooth upgrade process when you are ready to return. If you wish to downgrade to our social category, please email our Membership Team by Wednesday 22nd July to request this.

Any "lieu" hours you have banked during Club closure will be credited to you if you return to your usual category before 31st December 2020.

If we do not hear from you by Wednesday 22nd July, we will assume you are back using the Club's facilities.

Members who pay their fees annually
Your membership "clock" will, in effect, re-start on 1st August 2020.  If you are not ready to use the Club, please email our Membership Team by Wednesday 22nd July 2020 so we can make a note of this.   We have, and will be, in touch with you separately regarding adjustments to your renewal date.

Remind me, what do I need to do next?
Before Wednesday 22nd July 2020, please email our Membership Team if you wish to adjust your Membership in any way.  This will ensure your required changes are effective from 1st August 2020.  Please note lieu time is non-transferrable.
You can, of course, email us at any time in the future with Membership questions or amendments.

Thank you
Your support of the Club is hugely appreciated, thank you.  We look forward to welcoming more of our members back soon!  If you wish to discuss any of the above, please do not hesitate to email me directly.  For membership adjustments or queries, please email our Membership Team.

Best wishes,

Peter D Elviss
Chief Executive

We plan to introduce a limited food menu on Tuesday 7th July and we'll also be lighting up the coals on our BBQ soon so keep your eyes peeled for news.

Social distancing measures will, of course, be in place so please support our team by respecting these and note payment by card only.

Padel Players - You can now book three hours weekly

From Monday 6th July, padel players can now advance book three hours per week on our court, with one of those hours falling at the weekend.  Padel tennis is incredibly popular and, having reviewed demand, we feel this will give all players fair opportunity to enjoy the court throughout the week.

Extended Club Hours

From Saturday 4th July, we will be staying open for longer so please note the following extended hours.

Monday to Friday - 10am to 8pm (last court booking 7pm).

Saturday and Sunday - 10am to 6pm (last court booking 5pm).

A note from Reception

  • Please swipe your card on arrival - more than ever, we need full information on who is using the Club and when.
  • Please remember you can advance book our outdoor courts 1 week in advance. Names of all players will be required at time of booking.
  • Wherever possible, please phone to book your courts to help us manage social distancing and keep everyone safe.  Our phone lines open at 10.30am every day and are busiest in the morning so we would recommend calling in the afternoon.  So far, availability has met demand but we are constantly reviewing this.

Once again, thank you for your ongoing support, it is greatly appreciated.  With our phased re-opening, we continue to keep a close eye on costs to maintain our financial stability as we are a non-profit making organisation.  We are pleased to share these positive steps with you and hope it won't be long before we can write again with more good news.

If you have any questions on the above please do not hesitate to email me.  For any membership queries, please email our Membership Team.  Please continue to check our website, your inbox, and social media channels for updates and news.

Enjoy a drink with friends in our Bar

On Saturday 4th July our Bar re-opens so you can meet and enjoy a drink with your member friends, making the most of the long summer days in our beautiful grounds.  Plans are also underway to light up the coals on our BBQ soon, all exclusively for our members.

Please note social members may use our Bar area only, not our tennis or padel courts.

The safety of our members and staff is of paramount importance to us so we will continue to follow the social distance and hygiene guidelines set by the Government which, we hope, will offer you some peace of mind when you visit us.

Upgrade quickly when you're ready to return to sport and fitness

All social members benefit from a simple and quick upgrade process.  We can have you back on court, in the gym, or at a class as soon as you are ready to use these facilities.  Anyone in our Membership or Reception Teams will be able to help you with this.

At time of writing, our outdoor tennis and padel tennis courts are open and we hope to soon get the green light to unlock the doors to our fitness and squash areas.  Please note we do not have a date for this yet.

How do I re-join?

Click here to email our Membership Team who will advise next steps.  The team are responding to emails Monday to Friday, from 10am to 2pm.

Our Fitness Categories
Disappointingly, we are unable to open our fitness categories yet to re-joiners as we have not yet been given permission by the Government to open the relevant facilities.  Once these re-open, access will be given to existing members whilst we manage capacity and ensure we are operating safely to a high standard.  Please keep checking this page, your inbox, and social media channels for the latest updates.

Please note we are not able to accept brand new members to the Club, or those that cancelled before 20th March 2020, at this time but we are making plans to welcome these groups soon.

Thank you

I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support.  With our phased re-opening, we are keeping a close eye on costs to maintain our financial stability as we are a non-profit making organisation.  These are positive steps for our Club and we hope to write to you again very soon to share more good news with you.

If you have any questions on the above please do not hesitate to email me.  For any membership queries, please email our Membership Team.  Please continue to check our website and social media channels for updates and news.

Best wishes,

Peter D Elviss
Chief Executive
