Business as usual at our Tennis Academy

Posted on 27th Nov 2019

It's business as usual here for our long-standing Academy tennis team, headed up by Rich Irwin and Director of Tennis, Mark Reid.

Following an LTA restructure, our official status in their world changed last year when we were not awarded their RPDC status however, on the ground, everything remains the same and we are nurturing the next generation of players, helping them reach their potential and achieve their goals on national and international stages. Here are just some of our accolades from the last couple of years….we’ve got plenty more from previous years!

  • Our Academy Juniors compete at Junior Wimbledon. In 2019 we had THREE players competing, (unheard of for any club!) with one of our juniors reaching the semi-finals.
  • The Best U14 player in Europe – Jack Pinnington-Jones was ranked number 1 in the Tennis Europe rankings.
  • National Junior Champions at Under 12 to Under 18 age groups.
  • Team Tennis Champions in a multitude of events from Under 12–Under 18 age groups.
  • National School Champions at the Aberdare Cup
  • Talbot Heath ranked as the number 1 Girls School in the Country and Bournemouth Collegiate reached a high of number 6 in the country based on National Team events. We have close relationships with both of these local boarding schools and reduced fees are available for players.

We normally let our results do the talking but we are immensely proud of our Academy Team who have impressive CVs themselves (GB players, former Grand Slammers, etc).

They work hard every day to teach, encourage, and nurture our Juniors who are at a critical stage of personal and professional development in their tennis journey.

Incredible things are achieved here at West Hants!
