The Inaugural West Hants Table Tennis Tournament

Posted on 21st Dec 2015

Saturday 18th December 2015 saw the first West Hants table tennis tournament take place.

The juniors started off the event with some high standard play. It was a round robin event which saw some close matches and impressive shot making from all players. Hugo Jackson won the event with some extremely solid defence under some pressure situations especially against Louis Cunningham who came second. Well done to all that took part.

The adult singles event saw 16 players battle it out over 3 hours of intense play. With the youngest competitor being 25 years and the oldest 84 years table tennis is truly a game for everyone.  Having lost his first round match Max Lutostanski went on to win the plate final against Andy Metcalf. Steve Davis sailed through the draw to the final however Colin Bunch had an extremely tough semi final against Simon Brown. Colin won 3-2 and went on to give Steve a bit of a fright by taking the second game in the final to level at 1 – 1. Steve knuckled down and eventually took the title 3-1 with some fantastic shot making.

The doubles followed and fun was had by all. The final was contested by Steve Davies & Simon Brown against Colin Bunch & Mark Hurd. In the end Steve and Simon proved to be too strong and won 2-0 in an entertaining match.

Thank you to all that took part and I look forward to seeing more people entering next year.
