2016 West Hants Handicap Finals Saturday 7th May

 

Well done to all finalists who played in Finals of the Club Handicap on Saturday 7th May. The sunny weather made for the ideal playing and spectating conditions.

 

The Singles finals were played first using the new 21 points scoring system. Pauline Fisher retained her Singles title by beating Carol Dickie 3 sets to 0. The Men’s singles was well battled with Arthur Turner snatching the title from Boyd Brackstone 3 sets to 2.

 

Many thanks to Catherine Reffold and Margaret Wareing who volunteered to umpire the doubles finals which followed on at 2.30pm. Congratulations to Carol Dickie and Cleo Skilton  (-40) on their 6-4 6-0 win against Verity Barnes and Caroline Jarmolkiewicz (-15). The Men’s Doubles match went to 3 sets and finished after two and a half hours of thrilling tennis with  Neil Abercrombie & Gerard Wherity (-40) securing the win 4-6 6-4 6-4 against Robert Price & Max Wright (+15).

 

The Mixed Doubles was the last match to go on court and started at 5pm all competitors having played a final already in the day.

 

In true form the last final went to 3 sets and at 7.30pm Neil Abercrombie and Pauline Fisher (-40) kept their title and shook hands with their worthy opponents Arthur Turner and Cleo Skilton (-30) having taken the match 4-6 6-1 6-3.

 

The draws can be seen on the notice board in the corridor by the indoor courts.

Mixed Doubles Final: Neil Abercrombie & Pauline Fisher (L) beat Arthur Turner & Cleo Skilton (R) 4-6 6-1 6-3 (Umpired by Catherine Reffold – centre)
