Esther on court at Junior Wimbledon

Posted on 10th Jul 2017

We are incredibly proud of our very own Academy player, and Talbot Heath pupil, Esther who graced Court 4 at SW19 on Saturday!

Esther took it all in her stride and took the match to three sets before losing to one of the best juniors in the world, Russian Marta Paigina (she is 4 years older too).  The final score was 6-2, 5-7, 6-1.

An incredibly impressive effort for her first appearance on those famous grass courts - we were cheering Esther on from Talbot Woods!

*Update* Esther was on court again this week in the Girls Doubles with Gemma Heath (GBR).  It was a close match, 7-5 in the second set, but their opponents eventually claimed victory 6-4, 7-5.  Coach Richard Irwin said, "It was a very close match and after a slow and quite nervy start, saw Esther and Gemma have plenty of chances to swing the match in their favour. They had 3 break points to get back in to first set having come back from 2-5 to 4-5 but just fell short while there was only one break that separated them in the 2nd set at 5-5.  A fantastic experience and learning opportunity for Esther to go up against the best in the world and to show she's not far off that level!"
